General Queries

Why should I hire a professional movers?

Moving to a new home can be a physically and emotionally exhausting experience. Even with help from friends and family, moving large and bulky items can be challenging and risky, as it requires skill and precision to prevent damage to both the items and the carrier. Our team of professional movers are highly skilled and experienced, and they are committed to making your move as smooth and stress-free as possible.

You can trust us to take care of every aspect of your move, ensuring that your belongings reach their destination safely and securely.

What is the best day to move on?

Moving home can be a stressful experience, and selecting the right day to move can make a big difference. While Fridays may seem like the best choice as it gives you the weekend to settle in, any delays can result in the entire move being postponed to the following week. Choosing to move on an early or mid-week day can minimize the impact of any setbacks, as any delays may then only extend to the next day or so.

We understand the importance of a smooth move, and that’s why we offer removal services 7 days a week. Additionally, we can provide short-term storage solutions if you need to move into temporary accommodation before completing your sale.

Getting a Removal Quote

How far in advance should I get a quote?

It’s not necessary to wait until you accept an offer or exchange contracts to get a quote for your move. Moving dates can change at any moment, so having a quote ready which you are satisfied with, will mean that once contracts are signed and the moving process has started, you just need to give us a call to book a suitable date.

Our removal quotes are valid until the day of your move, subject to terms and conditions), and once accepted, we will promptly dispatch our removal boxes, so you can start packing at your convenience.

We understand that sometimes planning ahead may not be possible, and we will try our best to accommodate last-minute removal requests. If you need immediate assistance, please give us a call to check our availability.

How much will my move be?

Every move is unique and we consider many factors when providing a quote. These factors include the number of items to be moved, the distance of relocation, the size of the truck required, and the number of staff needed to complete the move within the given timeframe.

If you have requested additional services like packing or temporary storage, it will be taken into consideration while preparing the quote.

We suggest you schedule a free Home Removal Survey with one of our experienced surveyors, who will evaluate your moving requirements, to provide you with the cost.

How accurate will my removal quote be?

As long as you can provide us with full and accurate details about your move, then the price we quote is the price you pay.

To get a rough idea of the cost, you can give us a call on 020 8659 6677, email us or complete our online moving quote. However, we would highly recommend arranging for a free Home Removal Survey so our experienced surveyor can visit your home, discuss your requirements and provide you will the most accurate quotation for your move.

If you have any queries regarding the estimate we are more than happy to go over the details with you.

The price quoted is for us to provide you with a fully accredited BAR removal crew & vehicle. Please read the extra information that comes with the estimate it contains the answers to a lot of potential questions you may have.

What does a Home Removal Survey involve?

We will arrange for one of our extremely experienced estimators to visit your property to assess exactly what it is you need moving, in terms of quantity, what packing you require and what you will need to be dismantled/re-assembled etc.

When the estimator arrives at your home he will want to see everything that you need moving, he will look inside cupboards to see how much packing will be required, whether you want a complete packing service or just the breakables packed, or pack yourself.

Access issues
The estimator will also assess which of our vehicles can get within easy loading distance of your house, as well as try & gauge the same information about the destination address. i.e. narrow gates, narrow driveways, long stepped paths, spiral or difficult staircases, low tree boughs etc.

He may also ask about parking at both addresses.

This visit is also a chance to ask any questions you may have about the move.

I live in a high apartment, is this a problem?

No, we can move clients from all types of property.

When dealing with apartment moves, we will require the use of the lifts and will need to ensure that parking space near the main entrance is reserved. In case there are any difficulties with moving large or bulky items out of the property, we may need to employ the use of our furniture hoist to move items down. Our estimator will be able to discuss this option during your Home Removal Survey.

Preparing to Move

Can you hold a date for my removal?

We are happy to place paperwork in front of a proposed date, but cannot pencil in or hold a date for you unless you are confirming a booking. Our availability is ever-changing, so you will need to keep in touch with us to check that the date you request is still available.

We advise clients to only book a date once contracts have been exchanged and dates agreed upon with the other parties.

Once you confirm a date, you must complete and return a Removal Acceptance Form. The receipt of this confirms your booking and forms the contract between us.  Please note that any cancellation or change of moving date thereafter may result in a charge.

How do I book my Removal?

If you have found our estimate acceptable, once you have exchanged contracts and confirmed the date of your move, you will need to call us to check our availability on 020 8659 6677 and to make the booking.

You will then need to return the completed Removal Acceptance Form – the receipt of this confirms your booking with us and forms the contract between us.

On receipt of your signed acceptance form we will send you a Removal Sheet which will give you confirmation of dates & timings, the service to be provided, items not to be moved, items to be dismantled, pianos etc. Please check this is correct, this is to ensure that both parties are aware of everything that has to be done and on what day.

Can I do my own packing for my move?

If you decide to undertake your own packing please do not underestimate how long it will take you to do this properly.

When we arrive on removal morning we will be under a tight deadline to clear the house and we need to have everything in boxes ready to load the lorry.

We can provide you with cartons under the deposit system and sell packing paper, tape and provide you with a good source for bubble wrap. Please remember not to overfill boxes with books, records magazines as they become impossible to lift.

Please mark on the tape the contents of the box plus the source location.

Can Casey's Removals do the packing for me?

Yes, we can.  As every move is unique we offer various levels of packing service to our clients.

Partial Packing
This is where we just pack the breakables and last minute items. For instance china, glass, breakable kitchenware and pictures etc.

Full Packing
This includes breakables plus books, toys, clothing, unbreakable kitchenware, garden equipment and tools.

We normally undertake the packing of all the cartons on the day prior to the move and the removal staff that does this will undertake your removal – this allows for continuity of service.

We charge a refundable box deposit on all our cartons and as they are now a valuable commodity we would like them all back as we try and re-use them to avoid unnecessary wastage, we also re-use the paper.

The packers will tell you how they want to work and what they want to pack and in what order, the boxes will all be marked with the contents and their source location. When we arrive at the new house we then place the boxes back in their source location.

Can I use my own boxes for the packing?

Certainly! We highly encourage our clients to recycle boxes they have from past moves or have obtained from other sources. However, to ensure the safety and security of your belongings during the move, we suggest using strong, double-walled boxes.

If you require additional boxes, we will be happy to provide them as part of our removal package and have them delivered to you.

How should I prepare my appliances for the move?

Please ensure that your dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, fridge freezer, and microwave are completely empty before our arrival. Our team is not trained to handle electrical or plumbing work, so while they can disconnect standard connections, you will need to arrange for a professional to disconnect any gas appliances and lighting/chandeliers.

Flat Screen TV’s need to be disconnected and removed from wall brackets.

If you have planned to store your belongings with us, then you’ll need to make sure that your appliances are empty, clean and dry to avoid mould and mildew growth.

Will Casey's Removals unpack for me too?

We do not unpack the cartons at your new home unless we have been contracted to do so, as most people like time to take a deep breath before they embark on the unpacking.

However, this is a service we can provide.  If we do the unpacking it will be to table-top height and we will remove all the packing debris on the day.

Please call us on 020 8659 6677 to ask us about this additional service.

If you are unpacking yourself, then we suggest putting all the waste paper in plastic sacks and flattening the boxes as this ensures nothing is left in the packing paper – we do find all sorts of small items still in paper after the move!

Please make sure you keep the boxes in a dry place as they cannot be re-used once they have become damp.

What do I do about parking restrictions at my property?

Anywhere where there are residential parking restrictions, especially in London we will also need to get a dispensation to park, as we will be liable for parking fines. This process can take up to ten days depending on the council.

Parking in residential streets can be an issue, as we will need at least three car lengths to park a lorry.  This is where a polite note to neighbours is recommended to inform them of possible parking issues and to avoid anyone being blocked in by our trucks.

Moving Day

When will your arrive?

Unless we have made prior arrangements we leave the yard at 8.00 a.m. and travel to your house.

We normally expect to get access to your new property between 1-2 p.m.  When the crew arrive establish who the foreman is and show him exactly what has to be moved and if anything is staying.

Protective walk-ons will be laid in all hallways and main walkways.

Doing removals is very hard work and the crew are always very grateful for a drink – tea, coffee and especially chocolate biscuits!

Will Casey's Removals transport my pets?

Unfortunately not.  A removal truck is not a safe environment for pets. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for their transportation with a professional company or by yourself.

What shall I do with my cat/dog on Moving day?

It is a good idea to leave them with someone for the day, (but not essential). It can be a busy environment with furniture & men moving in all directions and we appreciate that this is not always a comfortable environment for pets to be in.

If possible, arrange for someone to care for them on the day of the move, as some animals may become scared and anxious will all the commotion.

Alternatively, provide an airy, but safe room for them to stay in whilst the packing/removals are underway. Make sure you clearly label the door and make the removal team aware of this.

What should I do BEFORE the movers leave?

Check carefully that everything that should have been taken has gone, open cupboards and fitted wardrobes and check in attics and outbuildings.

It is your responsibility to make sure that everything that should have been moved has been taken.

What should I do when I arrive at the new property?

Please make sure that someone is available near the entrance to direct the distribution of furniture – a label on each room will help us distribute the boxes to the right place.

When the crew has finished they will give you a removal sheet to sign – there is space for comments as we always like to hear how the removal went.

If you would like to click on testimonials you will see some of our most recent comments.

We hope that we have answered all the queries that we are asked on a regular basis, and that our extensive experience can make your move with us trouble-free and enjoyable.
