About Dulwich
The origins of Dulwich date back to Saxon times which is shown by its old English name – ‘meadow where the dill grew’. Since those early days it has grown and developed considerably from a village of approximately 100 in around 1300 A.D to the Dulwich you see today. Dulwich is still, comparatively speaking, an ocean of tranquillity within London with numerous parks and green spaces such as the 72 acre Dulwich Park.
The area is relatively affluent and largely residential in character. Dulwich is brimming with beautiful Victorian properties – some of which remain as large family dwellings, while others have been converted into very desirable flats. Lordship Lane is East Dulwich’s main attraction, and Dulwich Village homes the most desirable properties.
As well as the numerous green spaces there are some of the best schools and galleries to be found in the Greater London area – Dulwich College, Alleyn’s School, and the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
There are also amenities for those of a sporting nature such as the Dulwich & Sydenham Golf Course and the Dulwich College Sports Club. The area is well served with a wide variety of restaurants, coffee shops and shopping facilities and the nearby North Cross Road Market.
The month of May sees the annual Dulwich Festival taking place. The event is hugely popular with artists and those of a cultural persuasion.
There are also good train connections to London (Victoria & London Bridge) and beyond from both North Dulwich Station and West Dulwich Station.
