What you should be doing 6 weeks from move day?

When you are 6 weeks from your Move Day you should start thinking about the logistics of the actual move. Now is the time to speak with removal companies to find availability and ask for quotes.

If you are choosing to doing the packing yourself, then you will need think about ordering, or collecting, good quality moving boxes; begin organising your packing, and checking whether you require access or permits both for your old home and your new property.

Organise the logistics

First you will need to determine the type of service you require. This will mean assessing the size of property you’re moving from as well as the amount of possessions you need moving.

If it’s a small scale move, for instance from a flat or house share, or from a rented furnished property, then you may find that a man and van removal service will be sufficient. However, if you are moving from a larger, fully furnished, property then it’s probably best to use a removal company.

Removal Companies will be able to come out to your property and undertake a pre-move evaluation to establish the volume of possessions that need moving and therefore the size of vehicle required.

This is also a good time to ask Removal Companies if they offer a packing service in addition to removals.

Is it easy to underestimate the time it takes to pack up an entire house, and you may find that your chosen removal company can offer this service, which will save you time and added stress come moving day.

At Casey’s Removals we offers a full or partial, packing service as well as removals. For a free moving quote you can either call our office on 020 8659 6677 or complete our online questionnaire. We will then arrange for a pre-move visit to evaluate the move.

TOP TIP:
Whatever service you decide upon, try to avoid moving on Fridays or weekends, as these are usually in high demand. Try and opt for an off-peak time during the week.

Check for permits.

If not done so already, check with the local council regarding any required access or parking permits needed, and relay this information back to your removal company.

This information will also determine the type of vehicle required as well as any additional costs with respect to permits.

Get your Moving Materials Ready

If you’re doing the packing yourself, now is the time to start ordering your moving boxes, bubble wrap, tape and other required packaging material.

You could try posting a request on Facebook or Nextdoor asking if anyone has some old boxes to hand, but ensure these are heavy duty and of good quality. You will be putting your precious possessions in them, so you will want them to take the weight and not collapse on you.

It is also easy to underestimate the number of boxes you will need. Don’t be tempted to overfill boxes, as you will find these hard to move, and you run the risk of the boxes collapsing on you, or removal companies refusing to lift them as they are overweight.

At Casey’s Removals we sell a range of Packing Materials for your house move. We have a large range of different sized boxes, including wardrobe boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape and wrapping papers.

Items can be purchased direct from our Beckenham Shop.
