Natalie gives her thoughts about her eating experience at the Turtle Bay Croydon:

Amazing! Me and my family visited the restaurant in the evening as a walk in, and lucky for us in a busy buzzing restaurant we were seated, the manager was amazing, he had explained the entire menu to us and had a very funny sense of humour which we needed after a long day with the kids, think his name was Kirt, we were served by Ben who was sos amazing, food delicious, drinks amazing, can’t wait to be back and visit this amazing restaurant.

The Dutchie Restaurant & Cocktail Bar
Style: Caribbean, Jamaican, Vegetarian Friendly
The Arcade 32-34 High Street, Croydon CR0 1YB
Website: https://www.the-dutchie.com/

This review comes from smunfao of London about their time at Croydon’s The Dutchie Restaurant & Cocktail Bar:

A really nice venue for a catch-up. We booked a table on a Friday evening which is advisable as it tends to get rather busy. The menu I found online doesn’t do the restaurant justice as there is such a variety of food and loads of drinks on available. Including 2-4-1 cocktails. I had a mocktail (dry January) but will re-visit soon to try a few of them.

We had to wait around 30 minutes for the food and received an apology from the chef via the waiter. When it did arrive the food was really nice. I had the curry chicken roti. Parts of it were really spicy but I would recommend it. My meal and drink was approximately £15 which is really reasonable.

There is a nice atmosphere and a dj playing a good selection of music. The staff are great and the venue attracts a variety of people which is lovely.

The issue I do from other reviews is about the service…it can take time.

Fish Wings and Tings
Style: Caribbean, Jamaican
99 George Street, Croydon CR0 1LD
Website: https://www.boxpark.co.uk/croydon/

The following long review comes from Michael, where he talks about his eating experience at Boxpark in Croydon, especially Wings & Ting:

Boxpark top ranking! Used to have a regular evening appointment in Croydon on Thursdays, so started having early dinner at the Boxpark. I’ve tried a few places the but I like Wings & Ting the best.

The guy is always friendly, the service is super quick & the portions are very generous – in this respect I don’t understand some other reviews here! Top ranking is the curry goat: tender with a light sauce, it comes with a big side of rice & peas, a bit of finely shredded coleslaw & mango. Ditto the jerk chicken, you get a very sizeable leg.

Also if it’s not quite as spicy as you’d like there are really excellent home-made habanero or tamarind sauces on the table. I love a bit of heat & ting so I always add some of that. The girlfriend, not so much, so she doesn’t. No problem.

I also usually get the home-made ginger beer. Sweet on the tongue with a pleasant heat.

It’s a little expensive, £9 or £10 per main, but to be honest it’s competitive with the other Boxpark kitchens. I’m not Caribbean so I can’t tell *exactly* how authentic it is but it’s really nice food which is surely the point.

I don’t have the Thursday appointment in Croydon any more but I’ll find an excuse to go down for some curry goat again.

Roti Masters
Style: Caribbean, Vegetarian Friendly
26A St. Georges Walk, Croydon CR0 1YG
Website: http://www.rotimasters.com/

A mixed bag of reviews about Croydon’s Roti Masters. Here is Watermad from London’s review:

Chicken Peas and Rice. I’ve been going to Roti Masters for years, as its freshly produced, honest home cooked food.

My staple is the curry chicken roti which comes with potatoes but you can add other ingredients. Its tasty filling and you can add their home produced hot pepper sauce to heat it up, but be warned it is proper hot I stick to medium.

Its a filling meal which for the price of mass produced burger meal is good value.

And a not so good review by Richard:

Not masters of Roti! Visited this restaurant over the weekend and purchased 3x meat roti’s which were dry and lacked any moisture…sadly disappointed.

Big Mikes Calypso Kitchen

Website: https://www.bigmikescalypsokitchen.co.uk/

This review comes from Sab of London where they give their thoughts about Big Mike’s Calypso Kitchen in Croydon:

Mmmmm. Something different and delicious! Hubby brought home a few dishes. Wish sauces. We have the chicken goujons, Mac and cheese bites and Bajan fishcakes.

The chicken was delicious and so different from anything else I have eaten. Even my fussy daughter enjoyed them! The fishcakes were my favourite and filling. Mac and cheese bites were really nice. The 3 sauces that came with them were nice too. The hot one was hot hot hot. Will be ordering again once my mouth is no longer on fire lol
